Bemidji e-democracy makes final membership push

Jeff Ueland, the local forum manager for the new Bemidji e-Democracy forums is appealing for help to reach their goal of 100 participants. He says the forum will launch the first week in January. He is asking forum participatants and others to forward a simple message to people they think would be interested:

"I am a member of the new Bemidji Area Issues Forum.

Please join me by clicking the below link (the sign up process will take about 1 minute):

http://e-democracy.org/bemidjijoin"

The forum is currently at 73 members and so are very close to getting the site formally up and running.

The Bemidji E-Democracy forum focuses on discussing and exploring local issues brought forth by members of the community. The forum will serve as a sounding board and public venue where people can discuss critical, local issues as they evolve. An initial goal is to get as wide involvement in the community as possible by seeking participation from people of all social, cultural and political persuasions. Diversity of viewpoint is key to the strength of this type of forum and serves to facilitate comprehensive discussion on issues.

Local Web Site Changes Name

The Northern Community Radio community internet project web site name and domain has been changed from mnStringer.net to http://www.northerncommunityinternet.org/. Currently the web site is under development with new services being added as they are developed. Some local content is already available for six local communities, Brainerd, Bemidji, Grand Rapids, Hibbing, Leech Lake/Cass Lake and Virginia. This includes a local Google search, free classified advertising, a “blog roll” of the most recent storied from local blogs and a news service of local news stories.

The Bemidji site can be reached directly at bemidjicommunityinternet.org

The first stable version of the local web sites is scheduled to roll out in January. Until then the site is being updated with new features as they become available. One of the project's goals is to aggregate all local internet content in one place and provide a way for local internet content producers to attract a shared audience. The site currently allows local residents to identify local web sites to include in the local search, add local blogs to the blog roll, post a link to a local news story and place and respond to classified ads.

Northern Community Internet is a project of Northern Community Radio (91.7 KAXE).
